3 Vaccinated Senators Report Breakthrough COVID-19 Infections

Three fully vaccinated senators have all reported breakthrough COVID-19 infections, according to their respective offices.

Sens. Roger Wicker (R-Mississippi), Angus King (I-Maine) and John Hickenlooper (D-Colorado) have all tested positive for the disease and are experiencing mild symptoms.

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) also tested positive for COVID earlier this month, despite being fully vaccinated.

King, an independent from Maine, emphasized that he feels “much better than I would have without the vaccine.”

“I am taking this diagnosis very seriously, quarantining myself at home and telling the few people I’ve been in contact with to get tested in order to limit any further spread,” King said. “I will keep everyone posted in the days ahead of the healing process, but I urge everyone to remain vigilant, follow the guidance from health professionals, and get vaccinated if you haven’t been. [The] virus is not done with us yet.”

Wicker noted in his statement that he is being treated in Tupelo, Miss., and is in good condition.

The senator’s communications director, Phillip Waller, stated: “He is isolating, and everyone with whom Senator Wicker has come in close contact recently has been notified.”

Hickenlooper announced that he is self-isolating after consulting with a congressional attending physician. “I’m grateful for the vaccine (and the scientists behind it) for limiting my symptoms and allowing us to continue our work for Colorado,” he said.

Hickenlooper also asked unvaccinated people to get the shot and the booster when it becomes available.
