Trump-Friendly Judge Aileen Cannon In The Running For Attorney General If Former President Wins Second Term

U.S. District Judge Aileen Cannon has reportedly been placed on a list of potential attorney general candidates made by former President Donald Trump if he wins a second term.

The list, titled “Transition Planning: Legal Principals,” was drafted by Trump’s top advisers. It also included input from his legal team head, Boris Epshteyn.

In July, Cannon sparked controversy by dismissing Trump’s classified documents case because Special Counsel Jack Smith‘s appointment had been unconstitutional.

Democrats have since demanded she recuse herself from the case since her ruling indicates an intensely biased opinion of the defendant.

On October 22, an ABC News report cited several sources familiar with the situation and mentioned that a “proposed personnel roster circulating within Donald Trump’s campaign and transition operation” lists the U.S. district judge “as a possible candidate for attorney general.”

The outlet also noted that she is not first in line for the law enforcement position. She appears second after attorney Jay Clayton.

The list also includes political activist Mike Davis, the former president’s ex-assistant attorney general Jeffrey Clark, who was disbarred for propagating Trump’s false voter fraud claims, and Todd Blanche, one of Trump’s attorneys.

Many X users were angered by the idea of Cannon, whom Trump once called “very smart,” being listed as a potential attorney general.

“Judge Aileen Cannon delayed Trump’s trial past the election and ran out the clock for him,” political commentator Lindy Li wrote on X. “She protected Trump every step of the way; she attacked Jack Smith and smeared his role as unconstitutional. Now, Trump is considering making her Attorney General. Can you say QUID PRO QUO?!”

“Trump is now trying to bribe Aileen Cannon by considering her for Attorney General,” user @alshalloway claimed in an X post. “The irony is that now she will be forced to recuse herself. Trump is such an idiot.”

“Judge Aileen Cannon dismissed the stolen classified documents case against tRUMP saying ‘special prosecutor’ Jack Smith was inappropriate,” another user named @freedomenv stated. “WTF? Did she expect the U.S. Attorney General (who has 100s of other cases & responsibilities) to prosecute the case himself? Cannon = Corrupt.”
