Mike Pence Files Paperwork To Enter 2024 Presidential Race

Former Vice President Mike Pence filed paperwork with the Federal Election Commission for his presidential candidacy today, marking his entry into the 2024 race.

Pence is expected to officially launch his campaign at a rally in Des Moines, Iowa on his birthday this Wednesday. Gov. Doug Burgum (R-North Dakota) is expected to join the race on the same day, and former Gov. Chris Christie (R-New Jersey) is anticipated to announce his campaign the day before.

The former vice president is now running against his former boss Donald Trump, who he loyally supported until the January 6 riots when Trump falsely convinced his supporters that Pence had the power to overturn the results of the 2020 election and was refusing to.

Pence, who is currently polling in the single digits in every public poll so far, faces an uphill battle in the 2024 race. He already began preparing for his campaign launch months ago, holding events, visiting churches and attracting donors in early-voting states like New Hampshire and Iowa.

Pence’s team says he plans to campaign aggressively in Iowa, as they view the state’s large evangelical Christian voting base as critical to his path to victory.

Pence’s candidacy boasts a return to traditional, Reagan-style conservativism and a shift away from current Republican populism. Pence has criticized both Gov. Ron DeSantis’s (Florida) ongoing legal battle against Disney and Trump’s actions following January 6.

“The American people want us to return to the policies of the Trump-Pence administration, but I think they want to see leadership that reflects more of the character of the American people,” Pence recently said.
