Contradicting Trump, CDC Director Robert Redfield Clarifies He Was ‘Accurately Quoted’ On Danger Of Coronavirus Second Wave

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Director Robert Redfield acknowledged that his comments to the Washington Post published Tuesday were accurately quoted, contrary to what President Donald Trump claimed.

Trump wrote on Twitter that the CDC director was “totally misquoted” after the Washington Post featured Redfield’s “second wave of the virus” claim.

The president has previously denied the possibility of the novel coronavirus coming back in the fall.

“CDC Director was totally misquoted by Fake News [CNN] on [COVID] 19. He will be putting out a statement,” Trump wrote.

“I’m accurately quoted in The Washington Post,” Redfield said.

Redfield, however, also clarified that the Washington Post might have projected his statement a little further, and joined the Trump’s claim that its headline might have been inaccurate.

“I didn’t say that this was going to be worse. I said it was going to be more difficult and potentially more complicated because we would have flu and coronavirus circulating at the same time,” Redfield said.
