“This is not the 1950s anymore. Families come in all kinds of forms,” Vice President Kamala Harris stated on the Call Her Daddy podcast that aired Sunday night.

Harris was responding to Arkansas Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders (R)‘s suggestion at a recent Trump rally that Harris’ lack of biological children meant she was not “humble.”

Harris then talked about her contentment in her family with her husband, Doug Emhoff, and his two kids from his previous marriage. She also added that some women don’t strive to be humble, and they have love in other aspects of their lives besides children. Harris also advised Sanders, saying, ‘”I think it’s really important for women to lift each other up.”

Harris received support from one of Trump’s senior campaign advisers, Bryan Lanza, who called Sanders’ comments offensive and stated that being a stepmom can also be challenging.

Sanders responded to the comments, saying they were about the vice president’s policy positions.

“I would never criticize a woman for not having children,” Sanders said in a statement. “The point I was making and that Kamala Harris confirmed by her own admission is that she doesn’t believe our leaders should be humble, which explains her arrogant claim that she alone can fix our nation’s problems after spending the last four years making them worse.”

Trump’s running mate, Sen. JD Vance (R-Ohio), has also criticized women in leadership, calling them “childless cat ladies that seek to ruin the country’s lives because they don’t enjoy their own lives.”

These statements, along with Trump’s leading role in overturning Roe v. Wade, have strained his relationship with women voters.

Democrats are embracing the “cat lady comments. Singer Taylor Swift signed her recemy post endorsing Harris: “Taylor Swift, Childless Cat Lady.”
