Right-wing Rep. Bob Good (R) is in a close race to hold his seat in the 5th congressional district in Virginia.

The House Freedom Caucus Chair is currently losing to competitor John McGuire, with 95% of votes reported.

McGuire is now leading with 50.3% of the vote, while Good trails behind with 49.7%, or approximately 300 votes. It was anticipated that Good would lose his seat by more significant margins.

Mail-in votes are still being counted.

McGuire was endorsed by former President Donald Trump during his campaign and had an alliance with former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy. A McCarthy PAC contributed to McGuire’s campaign.

Good took part in the historic vote to remove McCarthy from his position as speaker of the House. Additionally, he supported Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis during his campaign before pivoting to Trump after DeSantis exited the race.

In his endorsement of McGuire, Trump said on Truth Social that Good was too late and “BAD FOR VIRGINIA, AND BAD FOR THE USA.”

Good has the support of other Freedom Caucus members, including Reps. Matt Gaetz (R) and  Byron Donalds (R), both of whom are from Florida.

Good posted on X late Tuesday night to thank his supporters and state that the election results are not yet final.

“Right now, we’re still waiting on the final election results of today’s Primary,” Good wrote. “As we wait, I wanted to thank you for your support thus far. You made sure your vote was cast. Many of you gave up your precious time to make phone calls and knock on doors. Several of you had tough conversations to ensure people knew the truth about this race. You encouraged your family, friends, and church members to get out and vote. And some of you worked the polls for hours to hand out literature.”

The Republican Jewish Coalition also posted to X to show their support of McGuire, who is pro-Israel.
