Ron DeSantis ‘Would Never Attend’ White House Correspondents’ Dinner, He Claims
Florida Gov. and potential 2024 presidential candidate Ron DeSantis shot down the idea that he attended the White House Correspondents’ Dinner on Saturday night after it was wrongly reported that he was on the guest list.
“I would never attend that. I have no interest in that. I did not watch it. I do not care what they do,” DeSantis said at a Monday morning press conference announcing funding for manatee protection. “But for them to advertise me when that invitation was rejected by my office, that is a lie.”
“The idea that I ever would have gone is false, and why they would want to perpetuate a lie about that, I don’t know,” he added. “That just shows you why that cabal of people in D.C. and New York are so reviled by so many Americans. I think it’s a reputation that been well deserved.”
The night, hosted by comedian Trevor Noah, didn’t pass without a few jokes made at DeSantis’ expense.
“One of my favorites, Ron DeSantis is here,” Noah said. “Yeah, yeah. Oh man, I’m actually surprised that he found the time. He’s been so busy trying to outmaneuver Trump for 2024. I see you, Ron. I see you, player.”
“What I like about Ron DeSantis is, if Trump was the original Terminator, DeSantis is the T-1000,” Noah added. “You’re smarter than him. You’re slicker than him. You can walk down ramps.”
