Newt Gingrich Says Jan. 6 Committee Members Should Be ‘Jailed,’ Cheney Blasts Ex Speaker
Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyoming) defended the Jan. 6 select committee after former House Speaker Newt Gingrich (R-Georgia) told Fox News that members of the committee should be jailed if the Republicans came back to power in the next election.
“The wolves are gonna find out that they’re now sheep, and they’re the ones who—in fact, I think—face a real risk of jail for the kind of laws they’re breaking,” Gingrich said.
He added that the committee is “running over the law” in their investigation process.

“A former Speaker of the House is threatening jail time for members of Congress who are investigating the violent January 6 attack on our Capitol and our Constitution,” the Wyoming Republican and Trump-critic responded via Twitter. “This is what it looks like when the rule of law unravels.”
Cheney was one of the ten Republicans to vote to impeach Trump for inciting the attack on the Capitol, and has been accused by members of her party as being a “spy for the Democrats.”
Cheney is running against a Trump-supported Harriet Hageman for the GOP nomination for her House seat. Hageman beat Cheney in Saturday’s straw poll in the state. The race is anticipated to be one of the tightest in the country.
Many Republicans still stand with Trump in believing that the 2020 election was “rigged” or “stolen” in favor of President Joe Biden despite judges in multiple states confirming that there was no election fraud.
The select committee has issued subpoenas to notable Trump allies and family members such as Rudy Giuliani, Eric Trump and Kimberly Guilfoyle. Ivanka Trump has been asked to testify in front of the committee.
