Rep. Liz Cheney Calls Gaetz Allegations ‘Sickening’
Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyoming) spoke out vehemently against the alleged conduct of Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Florida) in a new interview. The charges against Gaetz include sex trafficking and that he had a relationship with a 17-year-old girl.
“As the mother of daughters, the charges certainly are sickening. As the Speaker noted there is an ethics investigation underway, there are criminal investigations underway, and I’m not going to comment further on that publicly right now,” Cheney said. When asked if she was surprised by the allegations, Cheney said, “I’m not going to comment further.”
Gaetz actively called for Cheney to be replaced, even speaking at rallies in Wyoming after Cheney voted to impeach Trump in January 2020.
Gaetz has vigorously denied any wrongdoing. At a public event Saturday, Gaetz said, “The smears against me range from distortions of my personal life to wild, and I mean wild, conspiracy theories.”
