72% of Americans Approve Of American Rescue Plan
A new Politico/Morning Consult poll of 1,993 American voters found that 72% of those polled approve of Joe Biden‘s American Rescue Plan COVID-19 stimulus package. Ninety-five percent of Democrats polled approve of the law and so do 69% of Independents. Matching earlier polls as well, Republican voters also support the law with 44%
“The broad-based, bipartisan support for stimulus checks is evidence of the broad awareness that many Americans need a lifeline right now,” economist for Morning Consult John Leer said with the poll’s release. “It’s no surprise the extension of unemployment benefits is also extremely popular: Americans acknowledge unemployed workers deserve additional financial support until job growth resumes.”
Those polled were asked if they support or oppose “the $1.9 trillion coronavirus relief package that President Biden signed into law.” Despite 44% of Republican voters supporting the stimulus, zero GOP Senators or House members voted in favor of the package
The American Rescue Plan directed massive financial aid aimed to help those suffering from the COVID-19 pandemic. More than 90% of Americans, including most dependents, are receiving $1,400 checks. Americans on unemployment or receiving jobless benefits will gain an additional $300 per week and benefits will be extended through September, $350 billion is being given to state and local governments to assist K-12 schools, $12 billion is being given in nutrition assistance, food stamp beneficiaries will continue to receive a 15% increase in stipend until September, and several billion dollars will go to assist small businesses, vaccine research and vaccine distribution.
