In a 4-3 ruling, the Wisconsin Supreme Court ruled that all absentee ballots will have to be returned to election offices across the state. Prior to the ruling, absentee ballot boxes could be placed freely across Wisconsin's counties. The new ruling is a massive blow to Democrats as voting will become harder for people coming from disaffected communities. The state is also known as a vital swing state for presidential elections. The effect of the new ruling is still in question, however. Election officials and Democrats say that there was no evidence that the previous methods were unsafe. In the 2020 election, Joe Biden defeated incumbent Donald Trump by around 21,000 votes. Nearly 40% of all voters in the 2020 elections voted through absentee ballots. After Trump began to spread election lies, Republicans nationwide have been on a crusade to curtail mail voting, citing false claims of dead voters and ballot-box stuffing though no evidence was ever produced.
