Corallo told investigators he was concerned that Hope Hicks — Trump's former communications director — may have been planning to obstruct justice during the drafting of a statement about a meeting between a Russian lawyer and Donald Trump Jr. during the campaign. Trump has increasingly attacked Mueller and his investigation on Twitter. DiGenova endorsed the idea that a secretive group of FBI agents concocted the Russia probe as a way to stop Trump from being elected president. However, there is very little evidence for this claim. “There was a brazen plot to illegally exonerate Hillary Clinton and, if she didn’t win the election, to then frame Donald Trump with a falsely created crime,” diGenova told Fox News in January.
