Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-California) increased the pressure on President Donald Trump to resign in a statement she made today, saying Republicans in Congress need to “call on Trump to depart his office — immediately.”
Pelosi and others have been in talks with the military Joint Chiefs of Staff voicing concerns of an unstable Trump being in control of missile launch codes. A spokesperson for the chairman of the chiefs, General Mark A. Milley, vaguely confirmed that the chiefs “answered her questions regarding the process of nuclear command authority.”
Rep. Katherine Clark (D-Massachusetts) said that if Vice President Mike Pence will not invoke the 25th Amendment to remove the president, which sources close to Pence say he will not, then the House is prepared to begin impeachment proceedings as early as next week.
The House’s next session will be on Monday and many expect the articles of impeachment to be introduced then if Trump does not willingly resign.
